Mason City man sent to jail after third drunk driving conviction

MASON CITY – A Mason City man will spend the next 30 days in jail after pleading guilty to at least his third drunk driving charge.

Rodney Dean Ames, age 52, is serving a 30 day jail sentence at this time in the Cerro Gordo county jail. In his latest drunk driving arrest, Ames was arrested on August 15 by a Cerro Gordo deputy and charged with felony third offense drunk driving. However, in a plea deal, Ames pled guilty on September 25 to second offense operating while intoxicated. He was sentenced to 365 days in jail with work release granted, court records show, and those records do not show any of that time suspended. He must also submit a DNA sample and spend 2 years on probation.

Ames – who appears to be the owner of a Mason City bar – was first stopped and arrested in Franklin county back in 2003. He was caught again by Mason City police in February of 2012 and pled guilty to second offense operating while intoxicated.
