MASON CITY – There were some interesting characters that showed up today to listen to – and question – Governor Terry Branstad as he visited the Park Inn Hotel for a town hall meeting in Mason City on October 14, 2015.
Branstad arrived at the hotel at 10:45 AM to open up his town hall meeting in the Park Inn Hotel ballroom. He opened with remarks about hot-button items like health care (Medicaid), economic expansion, the environment, and more. As he entered the room, one man booed loudly and was asked to be more polite by security. At least two Republican elected officials attended, including Mayor Eric Bookmeyer and Supervisor Casey Callanan.
Later, Branstad took questions from the public. He was quizzed on Medicaid privatization and its effects on those in need; defunding mental health; defunding Planned Parenthood; agriculture commodity prices; gas prices; funding for education; and more.
