NIACC volleyball team splits pair of matches

niacc_trojans_logoMASON CITY – The NIACC volleyball team topped the Gustavus Adolphus junior varsity 3-1 in its first match Sunday afternoon in the NIACC gym.

NIACC won 19-25, 27-25, 27-25, 25-18.

Freshman Aubury Coleman led the Lady Trojans with 15 kills and freshman Kaylee Whttington was next in line with 12 kills, 13 digs and two ace serves. Sophomore Karlie Niedert added seven kills.

Hailey Winter led NIACC with 19 assists, eight digs and three ace serves. Jackie Bleifus had 17 assists.

Also for NIACC, Liv Block had 17 digs and four ace serves and Amber Carter had eight digs.

In its second match Sunday, the Lady Trojans dropped a 3-2 decision to Marshalltown Community College. The Tigers won 15-25, 20-25, 26-24, 25-20, 15-12.
For the Lady Trojans against the Tigers, Whittington had 14 kills and 20 digs. Coleman had 12 kills and four blocks. Niedert had 10 kills and six blocks, Winter contributed 25 assists, Bleifus had 17 assists and Liv Block 11 digs and six ace serves.

The Grand View junior varsity stopped Marshalltown CC 3-1 in the other first round match Sunday. The Grand View JV topped the Gustavus Adolphus JV 3-0 in its second match.
