MASON CITY – At-Large councilman Alex Kuhn has announced he is seeking a second term on the Mason City council.

From Alex Kuhn:

It has been a true honor and privilege to serve as your At-Large City Councilman for the past four years. After thoughtful consideration with family, friends, and colleagues I have determined that I am ready to put my experience and passion for Mason City to work for you again and I have decided to run for another four year term on the Mason City, City Council.

Mason City has made great strides in recent years and we are often referred to by our neighbors around the State as a ‘Community on the Move’. I am proud to have put in the hard work towards many of our communities recent successes including:

– Successful application to the State of Iowa for Mason City’s $36M downtown redevelopment project.
– Championed passage of Disorderly Premise Ordinance and enhancing public safety in our neighborhoods.
– Lead Smoke-Free Kids Playgrounds Resolution.
– New 145 Acre Shovel-Ready Industrial Site in Mason City.
– New Dog Park, Award Winning Bicycle/Pedestrian Trails Plan, BlueZones TM.
– $125 million dollars in business expansions and new tax revenue.
– Held the line on taxes – lowered city levy two of the last three years.

My record also shows I will stand up to ensure working class families in Mason City are given every opportunity to succeed and that our city services are upheld at a high level moving forward.

We still have a lot of work ahead of us and I am up for the challenge. Today I am asking for your support. Together we can continue to build on our strengths and make Mason City one of the most desirable places to in Iowa to live, work, and raise a family.

~ Kuhn grew up in Charles City and previously worked in the Iowa Legislature and U.S. Senate before moving back to north Iowa. Kuhn works for Henkel Construction Company and is Co-owner/operator of Kuhn Family Farms. He is member of Mason City Noon Rotary, volunteers for many non-profit organizations, and serves on several boards and commissions in Mason City. ~

THIS 4 years was suppose to be his stepping stone He is finding out he will never be anything more. Already took out his marriage. If I recall it was said during his run the last time, that his wife wouldn’t handle it. We were right. Does he not see how the city is WORSE then ever. Shame on all of them to run out a business and some place to go in town. If he truly cared why not run out the thugs sitting on porches every where. The porch scene is a reflection on who is control of our city Alex. Wake up!

On another story concerning Chop and Eleven… the city of Mason City seems to be taking a rather sound (deserved ?) beating.

Given that fact, I would have thought this story would have been deluged with negative comments about Mr. Kuhn, considering that Alex voted with the majority to deny a liquor license to Mr. Barlas

Talks out of both sides of his mouth. Has a major drinking problem, on going. Can’t control his addiction. Has that in common with the mayor.

I am not sure if this is a great thing. He has shown himself to be more intelligent than the others and is smart enough to take care of the voters. By playing both sides he is able to accomplish some things. I believe this is just a stepping stone for him
