OSAGE – North Iowa Republican legislator Josh Byrnes came up short in his bid to become the next House Speaker, but says he feels encouraged by the support he saw on his social media account.

“So I had 439 people on Facebook like my announcement on running for Speaker in the Iowa House. Most I have ever had for a post,” Mr. Byrnes said Thursday after news broke that Linda Upmeyer was chosen as the next House Speaker.

Byrnes, a NIACC instructor and farmer from Osage, said he “appreciate(s) that support and it sends a message that people want grounded leaders to represent them.” It was said that Byrnes offered a more moderate stance on some issues as compared to Linda Upmeyer, who is farther right on the political spectrum.

Byrnes said that a message was delivered by the support he saw on his social media account.

“Even though I didn’t win the Speaker position today, your message was delivered. It’s my hope that Speaker Upmeyer was listening and will consider these comments in creating her leadership agenda. Thanks again for the support.”

Wow, we have lunatics that don’t believe in family values and don’t like people who want a fair government. Liberals hide behind anything they can think of to bring ruin it for the middle class.

OK Anon. You tell me which specific “Family Value” you are talking about and this lunatic, old time Republican will tell you if you have my support and or not.

Interesting perspective on people that use the term “RINO”.
They are the intellectually challenged right-wing nut job’s that will call any Republican a RINO who is not totally bat-shit crazy on 100 percent of the issues, 100 percent of the time.
People that use the term “RINO” come from parents that were either brother & sister or first cousins.

Well said. Further they have developed their own politically correct buzz words for their far right agenda. Just peruse many of the posts here to catch them using their operative lingo and getting each other all ginned up.

For example… “Family Vaules” = code word for anti same sex marriage.

RINO’s or Republicans In Name Only are the reason the Republican Party is in a state of disarray.

Also, the attitude that it’s a ‘big party’ and everyone is invited to the table is yet another misnomer that has helped put the Republican Party in disarray.

@Anonymous, yes we do get to decide who is liberal and who is conservative. You can call yourself a Republican all you want but that does not make you a “conservative.”

The liberals who run as Republicans are being outed and it’s high time they are. We DO need to apply a litmus test to their sneaky agenda when they run as a Republican.

I am tired of people getting elected saying they are conservative and then vote with the Democrat’s liberal agenda that has been driving the middle class down.

Josh Byrnes is yet another sneaky liberal! He is a total RINO.

There certainly is a “litmus test” and Byrnes flunks big time. This guy was giddy to jack up the gas tax and thinks free college is a great idea. Imagine that, a college instructor who wants free college.

Well, there ain’t no such thing as free college, free healthcare, or free anything else, my friend. Someone has to pay and we the tax payers are sick of it.

I’m thrilled Byrnes didn’t get Speaker. The guy is a tax & spend liberal. The biggest RINO around.

You are entitled to your opinion but YOU dont get to decide who is a Republican and who isnt. In todays political climate there is a wide range of opinions within the party, as witnessed by the current Presidential Candidates. You appear to represent one element, within the party

@Frank-I think I agree with you.

Josh Brynes=RINO

Republican In Name Only

Here again we see a liberal school teacher posing as a Republican. He calls himself a moderate which is just another word for liberal.

That’s pure BS. You sound like Rush, bloviating about who is a “true” GOPer and who isnt. Its a big party and everyone is invited to the table. There is no litmus test my friend.
