Determan no stranger to cashing in on overtime; collected nearly $9,000 in last year on city job

MASON CITY – As Angela Determan exited her real job working for the people of Mason City and headed to the Blue Zone, she cashed in for thousands of dollars of overtime pay, city officials confirmed.

Determan was in the eye of the storm at Tuesday’s insane city council meeting, where she and her two bosses Eric Bookmeyer and Brent Trout stumble-bumbed through excuses to the city council on how she worked hundreds of extra hours of over-time on a set contract job. Scratching tooth and nail, they finally pulled off a big payday for Determan of $21,803 that she demanded for her work that the council never approved. She raked in $53,000 per year additionally in her contracted part-time job.

Now, it has come to the attention of NorthIowaToday.com that as Determan was leaving her former full-time job in city hall as a volunteer coordinator, leaving to take over the Blue Zones contract job, she raked in nearly $9,000 of over-time pay.

According to figures released to NIT from city hall, Determan was paid $8,902.42 for the 7-13-2012 payroll “as pay for additional hours worked”.  That was her last pay frame before she left to work in the Blue Zone.

“Yes, she was paid this at the end of her Volunteer Coordinator position,” said Finance Director Kevin E. Jacobson. “The payroll system shows it as retro pay for additional hours worked.”

As volunteer coordinator, Determan was making $16.38 per hour.  Once she was recruited by Eric Bookmeyer to lead his efforts on the Blue Zone, her pay went up to roughly $38.00 per hour.  It was learned at Tuesday’s city council meeting that Determan accompanied Bookmeyer on his fundraising excursions to lift the project off the ground.  Later, once her $53,000 per year contract expired, she continued working for over 500 hours – unauthorized by the city council – and was awarded an extra $21,800 at her new pay rate.

NIT plans to investigate what the $9,000 worth of overtime encompassed.  Did those overtime hours go to the Blue Zone?

Where is her office set up? Is it not in City Hall? Is she paying rent and utilities to the City? Those are our tax dollars she is abusing and using for her excessive way of life – I don’t make more than $22,000 in one YEAR! This “community project” is a scam and a joke! Who is doing her books? Herself? She needs to report all income and expenses, not just the donors we saw in the Globe. Looks like thievery to me!

How did they verify those overtime hours. Did she punch a clock or was it on her word only? I smell something crooked going on. If she was a hourly worker she should have had a time card. If she was salary she probably was not eligible for overtime and some one gave it to her as a favour for extra services. Some times that is called prostitution.

This city is SO CORRUPT! We need to clean house!

What surprised me was the fact that Bill s. would be a ass kisser of Bookie
