MASON CITY – A Mason City man was hospitalized after smashing his bicycle into a parked car Friday night.
Mason City police told NIT Saturday morning that a bicyclist, 49-year-old Jeffrey Schade of Mason City, was traveling westbound in the eastbound lane of 12th Street NE just before midnight Friday. Schade collided head-on with a legally parked, white 2006 Nissan owned by Ashley Smith at the 1200 block of 12th Street NE. A police officer happened to see Schade at the scene and stopped to help. An ambulance was called, and Schade was transported to Mercy Hospital with undisclosed injuries.
Police told NIT that the incident is being investigated and that alcohol may have played a part.
Is the bike okay ?
Alcohol may have played a part? Do you think? I see these people all over town riding down the middle of the street or on the wrong side of the street. Some are so bad they fall down at the corners and they all think they are so cool with their little bikes. Most are druggers or drunks that have lost their license. They are nothing like the recreation bike riders we see obeying the rules. Why would we expect them to obey the rules. That is what got them here in the first place.
OOps-I didn’t notice that I needed to log back in. Sorry
