Fort Dodge cops give chase after shots fired

gunFORT DODGE – A Fort Dodge police officer heard gunshots, and as he investigated, a chase ensued and three suspects escaped on foot.

According to Fort Dodge police, on Tuesday, June 23rd, 2015 at approximately 11:40 PM, officer Matt Burns was in the area of the 800 block of 6th Ave North when he heard two gun shots to the south of his location. While going to the area to investigate, he observed a silver 4 door passenger car leaving the area at a high rate of speed. Officer Burns attempted to stop the vehicle, however, the driver refused and a brief vehicle pursuit followed.

The driver and two passengers in the vehicle eventually fled from the vehicle on foot in the 1200 block of 10th Avenue SW. The vehicle continued to roll until striking and damaging a chain link fence. The vehicle was towed from the scene to be processed for evidence.

While officers were involved in the pursuit, a resident in the 300 block of North 8th Street called in stating that they were in the vicinity and observed someone fire what appeared to be a gun.

No one was injured in this incident and it continues to be investigated.
