Memorial to be held for Waldorf College student who lost life in kayak accident

waldorf-college-tuition-freezeFOREST CITY – A memorial will be held in honor of Tim Brown Jr. on Friday, May 8 at 8:30 p.m. in the Odvin-Hagen Recital Hall at Waldorf College. A balloon release will follow the ceremony.

Brown, originally of Winterpark, Flordia, passed away in a boating incident on April 13. He was expected to graduate this Saturday with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.

Brown came to Waldorf in 2010 to play football, but a neck injury his freshman year put an end to his college athlete career. Brown continued to be involved in campus ministry, attending several mission trips and building faith among his peers.

Brown was engaged to marry his long-time girlfriend and fellow Waldorf College student, Kaitlin Daigle, also originally of Florida, this summer.

“This has been a difficult time for our campus, faculty, staff, and students,” said Waldorf College President, Dr. Bob Alsop. “Please pray for Tim, Kaitlin, their families. Tim has touched many lives during his time on campus, and in our community.”

The memorial service is open to friends, family, the community and those who wish to express their condolences and support.

According to Hancock County Sheriff Scott Dodd, his agency received a 911 call shortly after noon on April 13, reporting that a man was underwater after his kayak overturned inside the Torkelson Pits Conservation Area near Forest City. After about a two hour search, a male – later identified as Timothy Brown Jr. was found and pulled from about 12 feet of water, about 50 feet from shore.
