Car crash investigation leads to drunk driving, child endangerment charges against North Iowa woman

MASON CITY – A North Iowa woman who was taken to Mercy Hospital after her car crashed last month has been charged with drunk driving and child endangerment in connection with that incident.

According to the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, a green 2015 Ford Taurus driven by 33-year-old Julie Rockwell of Meservey (now listed as Ratcliffe, Iowa) was westbound on 210th Street when the vehicle left the road. Emergency responders arrived soon thereafter, and she was taken to Mercy Hospital with unspecified injuries. A passenger in the vehicle, 5-year-old Darik Rockwell, was treated by paramedics at the scene and released with no injuries.

The accident remained under investigation after the incident.

On April 21, the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office charged Rockwell with first offense operating while intoxicated and child endangerment and a warrant was issued for her arrest. on April 23, Rockwell showed up at he county courthouse, and she was arrested and booked into the jail. She now awaits a May 8 hearing.

Rockwell was also charged with possession of marijuana the next day. She’ll be arraigned on May 5 on that charge.

On March 28, Rockwell was charged with second offense domestic abuse assault and later with violating the no-contact order in the case.  She’ll be arraigned next week in that case.
