Iowa man shot to death; one arrested

9-mm-gun-01BURLINGTON – At approximately 1:23am, law enforcement personnel were dispatched to 1204 Jefferson Street, in Burlington, in response to a call of shots fired.

Upon arrival, officers found Matthew Quinton Banks, 28, of Burlington, had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Banks was transported to Great River Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Burlington Police, with the help of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), through witness interviews and evidence located at several locations, were able to identify the suspect as Maurice Green, 43, of Burlington. An arrest warrant was obtained, with assistance from the Des Moines County Attorney’s Office, charging him with 1st Degree Murder.

Special Agents with the Iowa Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and Division of Intelligence and Fusion Center (DOI), along with the Burlington Police Department, developed further information leading the search for Green to Galesburg, Illinois. With assistance from the Galesburg Police Department, Green was taken into custody without incident. Green will appear in Knox County, Illinois, court, where authorities will begin extradition proceedings to Iowa to face the 1st Degree Murder charge.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety’s DCI and DOI assisted the Burlington Police Department with this investigation. Investigators continue to interview witnesses and gather evidence. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
