Four-year-old child struck by stray bullet in Waterloo

WATERLOO – A small child was shot and taken to a hospital in Waterloo Thursday afternoon.

On April 2, 2015 at 1:49 P.M. the Waterloo Police Department responded to a 911 emergency call of shots fired in the area Mulberry Street and Vinton Street, and that a four-year-old boy that was struck by one of the bullets at 1641 Mulberry Street.

Upon arrival, it was discovered a bullet went through the exterior wall of the residence and a four year old boy inside the house was struck in the abdomen. The boy was transported to Allen Hospital and immediately sent to surgery and is listed in stable condition at this time.

Witnesses are currently being interviewed and the crime scene is being processed at this time. All preliminary indications show that this residence was not the intended target of this shooting. More information will be released as it becomes available.
