Stranger exits car, offers little Iowa girl candy; police issue warning

children-safety-strangersPOLK COUNTY – Iowa residents should be wary of a male subject in a black car who offered a little girl candy Tuesday evening.

On Tuesday, February 3, Polk County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 8300 block of NW Chevalia Drive in Grimes reference a suspicious person in the area.

The caller reported that at approximately 5:00 PM while his 10-year-old daughter was outside playing in the driveway, an unidentified male exited a mid-size black sedan and approached her. When the male offered the 10 year old girl candy, she immediately ran inside her home and reported the incident to her parents.

The suspect in this case is described as tall male with brown hair, in his mid to upper 40’s, wearing a navy jacket and blue jeans. We are currently performing follow-up interviews to determine the suspect’s race and build.

Deputies searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect or vehicle. At this time Polk County Detectives are currently working on identifying the individual and vehicle involve in this case.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help. If anyone witnessed this incident, seen the person/vehicle involved or has any additional information, they are asked to contact the Polk County Sheriff’s Office at 515-286-3333.

The Sheriff’s Office is also asking everyone to stay vigilant – Please share this information with your family, friends, neighbors and coworkers. Parents – Please remind your children what to do if they are approached by a stranger. If you witness any suspicious activity in your neighborhood please report it to local law enforcement officials.
