Mason City man accused of drunk driving twice in two days pleads guilty

MASON CITY – A man who is accused of drunk driving in two different Iowa counties over the course of two days has pleaded guilty to one of the charges.

Chad Martin Bernhardt, age 44 of Mason City, pled guilty on December 2 to first offense operating while intoxicated. He was arrested by Mason City police on October 19. Bernhardt was sentenced to two days in jail, and ordered to pay $1,950.50 in fines and fees.

Bernhardt was also arrested for a drunk driving on October 20 by Emmetsburg police. He is due to be arraigned on January 21 on a charge of first offense operating while intoxicated.

It sure seems like one of those charges should be second offense. He obviously didn’t learn from his first mistake.
