Charles City man sent to prison for 5 years for threats against school kids

CHARLES CITY – A Charles City man was sentenced to prison in a plea deal involving threats to children in schools.

Loren, Saxon, age 48, was sentenced on December 2 to 5 years in prison for intimidation with a dangerous weapon and public intoxication. He was also ordered to pay $645.25 in fines and court costs.

Saxon had earlier accepted a plea deal in a case where he was arrested at a Charles City hotel after saying he was a member of Al-Quaida and he would shoot as many school children as possible. He was charged with threat of terrorism and public intoxication in the August 24 incident that took place at the Best Budget Inn. Schools were locked down in response to the potential threat. He originally pled not guilty.

Saxon remains in the Floyd county jail until he is shipped to a state prison.
