NIACC’s Ford-Washington selected as NJCAA Division II player of the week

MASON CITY – A day after being selected as the ICCAC player of the week, NIACC sophomore Sierra Ford-Washington was selected as the NJCAA Division II women’s basketball player of the week for the week of Nov. 3-9.

Ford-Washington is the first NIACC women’s player to earn the national honor since Cortni Rush was the national player of the week on Dec. 18, 2013.

Ford-Washington (Richfield, Minn.) averaged 23 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in games against Iowa Western and the Grand View University junior varsity.

In a 62-52 loss to Iowa Western, Ford-Washington, a 5-foot-7 inch guard, scored 18 points with four rebounds, two assists and four steals.

In a 101-69 win over the Grand View junior varsity, Ford-Washington scored a career-high 28 points with nine rebounds, five steals and five assists.

Ford-Washington averages 18.5 points and 6.2 rebounds to lead the Lady Trojans (3-1 overall). She also leads the team with 16 assists and shares the team lead with 12 steals.
NIACC returns to action Nov. 19 at Rochester Community and Technical College.
