Clear Lake bar burglarized

rumorz-barCLEAR LAKE – Owners of a Clear Lake bar recently in the news are now the victims of a burglary.

NorthIowaToday.com has learned that thieves smashed out a window at Rumorz Bar, 1210 South Shore Drive, sometime early Friday morning. The crooks then entered the establishment and used a water saw to hack up the ATM machine inside and steal an undisclosed amount of cash. They had apparently taken the ATM into the bathroom to find the nearest water source. NIT has also learned that the culprits stole hard drives out of the security camera system in order to cover their tracks.

“We knew something would happen,” owner Katie Showalter told NIT. She had been in the news recently after a dispute was publicized between squatters at the nearby Silver Boot Motel and the property owner. She is looking to finalize the purchase of that property and re-open the motel.

“Shocker with all the publicity in the last week,” she said.  The bar and grill will remain open for business.

Clear Lake police could not answer any questions from NIT after a call to their headquarters, but are apparently investigating.

Anyone with information on this incident should call police at 357-2188.
