GOP punishes Braley after visit from Michelle Obama

DES MOINES – The Iowa Republican party and its followers unleashed a venomous attack upon Congressman Bruce Braley after he welcomed First Lady Michelle Obama to Des Moines Friday to help his struggling campaign.

Some on the right are saying that bringing the First Lady into the last weeks of the campaign is a show of weakness and desperation. The approval ratings for President Barack Obama are at all-time lows and sinking, while Braley’s opponent, Joni Ernst, has surged.  Democratic politicians across the country have essentially avoided having the Obamas show up in person at their campaign rallies.

Michelle Obama arrived in downtown Des Moines Friday afternoon  at a rally for Braley’s U.S. Senate campaign. In a campaign already suffering from a series of gaffes, Mrs. Obama added to the misery by calling the Congressman “Bruce Bailey” instead of Bruce Brailey.

The Iowa GOP wasted no time in pouncing on that mistake, and mocked ideas he shared with supporters.

“Bruce Braley is having a ROUGH time lately!,” The Iowa GOP declared Saturday via social media. “Yesterday, First Lady Michelle Obama couldn’t even get his name right … she called him ‘Bruce BAILEY’ seven times!”

One apparent supporter of Joni Ernst commented “Big lips didn’t do her homework”.

Another said Michelle Obama “is a typical libturd idiot. All smoke and mirrors. She is unqualified to be in the [White House].”

The Braley campaign made no mention of the First Lady’s apparent mistake.

Meanwhile, Braley and Ernst are set to square off Saturday night in their second debate. The debate can be found on C-SPAN at 7 PM.

The election is November 4.  The winner takes the seat of retiring Senator Tom Harkin.
