No court date set for City assessor in assault case

MASON CITY – Attorney Joel Yunek made an appearance in court on July 22 for Mason City assessor Dana Naumann, accused of serious domestic assault.

Initially, Naumann, age 38, had a preliminary hearing scheduled for Friday, August 1, but that hearing was waived when Yunek appeared in court. At that hearing, Judge Annette Boehlje imposed a no contact order on Naumann to avoid the alleged victim in the case, a man who police said suffered injuries at the hand of Naumann on July 17 during a domestic incident that did not require medical attention yet were significant enough to warrant a more serious domestic assault charge.

No court date was set. Typically, after preliminary hearing, trial information is gathered, then a formal arraignment is held, followed in most cases by discovery, motions, hearing, possible plea deals and then a trial.

The ‘Naughty Assessor’ doesn’t quite have the same ring as the Naughty Librarian does it? Maybe she’s setting precedent.

I was thinking more like “The Nutty Professor”
