CHARLES CITY – An elderly Charles City woman was cited by police after an auto accident that caused thousands of dollars in damage to two Chevy Malibus.

Charles City police responded on June 19th at about 2:34 PM to an accident at the intersection on 11th Street and South Main Street. A 1999 Chevy Malibu driven by 16-year-old Jason Glandon of Charles City was stopped at the stop sign at that location, when he then took off going straight to the east when he was struck by a 2010 Malibu driven by 80-year-old Verna Schmiedel of Charles City who was driving north on Main Street.

Schmeidel was cited for failure to obey a stop sign; she pled guilty the next day and was assessed $195.00 in court costs and fines. The accident caused about $2,000 in damage.
