MASON CITY – A retiring city hall custodian will not be replaced with a new employee, city documents show.

City hall in Mason City has formed an RFP committee (requests for proposals) to seek a janitorial service provider to replace a long-time custodian who is retiring on May 30, 2014. The RFP committee consists of Kevin Jacobson, Curt Suave, Cheri Collins, Pat Otto and Mark Rahm.

The janitorial service provider will need to be capable of meeting the current and future cleaning needs for city hall. The RFP committee is seeking to bring a recommendation for approval of a 2-year contract with a provider to the city council for approval at the June 3, 2014 council meeting.

The committee will seek approval from the city council on May 6 to send an RFP to janitorial service providers.

Documents show that the city would see “some savings” as no wages or benefits will be paid with the elimination of the position, only a monthly fee to the outside provider.

I would contract a small business owner – if you go to a large company the person doing the work won’t make a living wage. You know like convenience store workers. And I congradulate you on your wisdom in not hiring another fat cat public servant.

No positions in City Hall are union.

I worry more about the eleven and a half million leeches then I do a unionized worker. At least he is spending his money in this country.

I worry more about people who can’t communicate THAN what goes on in government.

I guess my failure to communicate has an unbearably profound impact on your life. So you don’t have to worry about me, I suggest that you not read my posts, it will help you live longer.

It will probably go to one of their good buddy’s and end up costing us a fortune.

Have that 50K blue zone worker they hired clean up it would be good exercise for him, or better yet they should all keep the place clean.

Good. One less unionized leech on my pocketbook.
