VAN HORNE, IA – A compact car crossed the center line on a rural Iowa highway and struck a large piece of farm machinery, taking the lives of two Iowans on April 11.
According to an Iowa State Patrol crash report, a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta driven by 42-year-old Paul Hofmeyer of Iowa City was westbound coming out of the town of Van Horne on 70th Street when for an unknown reason, crossed the center line and collided head-on with a TerraGator boom sprayer.
Hofmeyer and a passenger, 44-year-old Stacy Thompson, also of Iowa City, were killed. The driver of the boom sprayer, 42-year-old Jeffrey Selk of Keystone, Iowa, was injured and hospitalized.
