Woman sustains head inujury in Calhoun county snowmobile mishap

DES MOINES – A Clare woman was air lifted to a Des Moines hospital after sustaining a serious head injury while snowmobiling Saturday evening on North Twin Lake in Calhoun County.

Jill George, 38, was operating a snowmobile on North Twin Lake when she hit a snow drift causing her to be ejected shortly after 6:30 p.m. Saturday. She was taken to Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge and then airlifted to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Hilary Hansch, 24, of Fort Dodge, was a passenger on the snowmobile, but was not injured. The snowmobile was rated for one occupant. Neither George nor Hansch were wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.

The incident remains under investigation by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
