Cyclones host Longhorns Saturday

logo_iowa_state_cyclonesAMES – Iowa State (19-5, 7-5) hosts Texas (20-5, 9-3) Tuesday at Hilton Coliseum. The game will be televised by ESPN2.

Texas sits in second-place in the Big 12. The Cyclones have won two straight vs. Texas at Hilton Coliseum.

Texas won the first meeting this season, 86-76, at the Frank Erwin Center. Jonathan Holmes had a game-high 23 points for the Longhorns, while ISU was led by Georges Niang’s 18 points. Melvin Ejim (17) and DeAndre Kane (15) were also in double-figures for the Cyclones. ISU turned it over a season-high 18 times in the first meeting.

Iowa State is one of just nine schools nationally with three players averaging at least 15 ppg (VMI). The Cyclones have had five different players tally 20+ points in a game this season. ISU is the only school in the nation to score 70+ points in every game.

Melvin Ejim is the Big 12’s top scorer at 18.9 points per game, up 7.6 ppg from last season. The last Cyclone to lead the conference in scoring was Marcus Fizer (1999, 2000). The senior has posted eight double-doubles this season and 30 in his career.

Texas leads the all-time series vs. Iowa State at 17-10.
