MASON CITY – Stebens Children’s Theatre’s major annual fundraiser will be at a new location this year: Music Man Square.
The Mardi Gras-themed event on Friday, Feb. 28, will feature a trivia contest, a king’s cake with prizes, live and silent auctions, beer- and wine-tasting, and lots of delicious appetizers. The evening begins at 6 p.m. with live music by Little Bluestem.
“It’ll be a colorful evening with tasty refreshments and prizes for everyone,” said Mara Ouverson, leader of the event planning team and a member of the theater’s board of directors. “We’re very excited to be collaborating with Music Man Square.”
The Winter Carnival is the major annual fundraiser for Stebens. Special, one-of-a-kind, experiences will be sold in a live auction. Silent auction items will include gift baskets put together by each group of students taking theater classes at Stebens; gift certificates to area restaurants; and many other items donated by local businesses and patrons.
“Our Fundraising Committee can really throw a party! Fun will be had by all,” said Stebens Children’s Theatre Executive Director Tom Ballmer.
Tickets for the Winter Carnival are now available and teams are being accepted for the trivia contest. Tickets cost $12.50 in advance or $15 at the door. Tickets for an entire trivia team of 10 can be purchased for $100.
Proceeds from the fundraiser go toward production expenses, royalty fees, workshop expenses and for student scholarships. About one fourth of the students enrolled in classes at Stebens receive scholarships based on financial need.
Stebens Children’s Theatre, established in 1984, is a nonprofit organization that teaches children all aspects of theater and puts on eight productions a year, providing entertainment to about 14,000 people.
