Does public breastfeeding make you uncomfortable?

Does public breastfeeding make you uncomfortable?

NIT – We’ve all been there.  At the mall, at the park, in a restaurant, and there is a woman breastfeeding her baby.

Even though it is a natural part of raising a child for millions of women, for many people, it is an uncomfortable site.  Some of you reading this may have even thought about asking the woman to stop, or go elsewhere.  Others may have silently disapproved but said nothing.  Or, perhaps you were just fine with it.

Opinions differ.  But when – if ever – should a woman refrain from breastfeeding her baby in a public place?

In an interview released Monday with Vatican Insider, his holiness Pope Francis implored women to go ahead, whip out a breast and go for it, even in his presence.

Speaking to a question on world hunger and the tragedy of a statistic that says about 10,000 children die everyday in the world due to hunger, the Pope said that too much food is thrown away, and if more were recycled “we could feed so many.”

The Pope related a personal story about a woman with a crying baby with a mother who wanted to breastfeed.

“There are so many children that cry because they are hungry,” Francis began. “At the Wednesday General Audience the other day there was a young mother behind one of the barriers with a baby that was just a few months old. The child was crying its eyes out as I came past. The mother was caressing it. I said to her: madam, I think the child’s hungry. ‘Yes, it’s probably time…’ she replied. ‘Please give it something to eat!’ I said. She was shy and didn’t want to breastfeed in public, while the Pope was passing. I wish to say the same to humanity: give people something to eat! That woman had milk to give to her child.”

The women I have seen breastfeeding in public use a small blanket or piece of fabric to cover the baby and mothers chest. That should not bother anybody.

That picture reminds me of the feeder pigs I use to raise. LOL I bet you couldn’t even tell the difference between when these feeders were pregnant and when they weren’t.

I have friends that used to breast feed in public, it is a natural thing that I don’t see a problem with, but that’s just me.

My opinion is it is a private thing. I would not want my wife or daughter exposing themselves. I guess it is up to the individual.
