gas-burner-carbon-monoxideTHORNTON – A mother and her child were transported to Mercy Hospital Monday after a possible carbon monoxide gas leak at their home.

A Cerro Gordo county deputy was dispatched to 208 2nd Street in Thorton Monday afternoon at about 1:03 PM for a medical call that involved a furnace gas leak at the residence. Thronton EMTs and Mason City paramedics also responded.

Sheriff Kevin Pals said Tuesday that the residents at the home were complaining about headaches and believed that they had been poisoned by carbon monoxide gas coming from the furnace.

A 10 year old boy, Vincent Otero, was transported by ambulance with his mother, Christina Bartelt, age 34, to Mercy hospital, where they were treated and later released.
