WASHINGTON – The U.S. State Department condemned a suicide bomber attack Thursday at Yemen’s defense ministry that resulted in over 50 deaths.
A Deputy Department Spokesperson said that the United States condemned the terrorist attack against the Yemeni Ministry of Defense, which resulted in “the senseless killing and wounding of dozens. We extend our sincere condolences to the families of the victims. We stand with Yemen against this violence and remain firmly committed to supporting the Yemeni people as they seek to conclude the National Dialogue and move forward peacefully with Yemen’s historic democratic transition.”
Witnesses told Reuters that one attacker drove a car packed with explosives into the gate of the ministry’s compound, then gunmen in another vehicle sped in and opened fire on soldiers and doctors and nurses working at a hospital inside.
