WASHINGTON – On December 2, Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs Tom Kelly hosted Yemeni Minister of Defense Major General Mohammed Nasser Ahmed Ali for the second session of the U.S.-Yemen Strategic Dialogue at the U.S. Department of State in Washington, DC.
The Dialogue built on the success of last year’s inaugural session, which was held last December in Sana’a, Yemen, and underscored the United States’ firm commitment to strengthening the broad bilateral partnership and supporting Yemen throughout its transition. Civilian policymakers and defense and security officials came together for a broad discussion to promote bilateral political-military relations, advance Yemen’s political transition and efforts to restructure the military and security services, and coordinate on security issues and assistance.
The successful conclusion of these consultations underscores continued U.S. support for Yemen’s historic political transition and continued bilateral security cooperation, and highlights our ongoing commitment to developing a broad, long-term cooperative relationship with Yemen.
