ISU guard Kane earns second Newcomer of the Week honor

logo_iowa_state_cyclonesAMES, Iowa – Iowa State senior guard DeAndre Kane has been recognized as the Phillips 66 Big 12 Newcomer of the Week for the second time this season after his performance against BYU.

Kane posted his second double-double of the season as the Cyclones won at BYU, 90-88, handing the Cougars just their 12th home loss in the past 132 games. Kane finished with 21 points and tied his career-high with 11 rebounds, adding three assists and two steals. He shot 60 percent (9-of-15) from the field and made 3-of-4 (.750) from the free-throw line. Kane has been in double figures for all four games this year and is shooting 57.5 percent overall.

Kane’s award is the fourth for the Cyclones in the season’s first three weeks. Melvin Ejim and Naz Long have earned player of the week nods this season.

Oklahoma State’s Marcus Smart was named Big 12 Player of the Week.
