WASHINGTON – Most Americans still believe that a conspiracy was involved in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
A gallup poll that questioned 1,039 adults by phone Nov. 7-10 indicated that as the 50th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s approaches, a clear majority of Americans (61%) still believe others besides Lee Harvey Oswald were involved. But, this percentage is the lowest found in nearly 50 years.
In 1976, 81 percent of Americans said they believe in a conspiracy theory, despite the Warren Commission investigation that ruled that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone.
The belief in the conspiracy theory remained high for many subsequent polls, Gallup said.
Thirty percent of Americans believe that Oswald, who was apprehended by Dallas police hours after Kennedy was shot on Nov. 22, 1963, was the lone gunman in the murder.
Gallup in its November poll asked those who believe the Kennedy assassination was part of a conspiracy an open-ended question about who, besides Oswald, they thought was involved. Americans cite the Mafia (13%) and the federal government (13%) most often, followed by the CIA (7%), Fidel Castro or Cuba (5%), and unnamed “special interests who disagreed with [Kennedy’s] policies” (5%). Forty percent of Americans, however, could not offer the name of a person or group involved in a conspiracy.
I lived in Texas for quite awhile and the Texans all believe that LBJ was involved. They told me he was the biggest crook in Texas and laughed about how he came to be the president.
As I recall, Oswald had been in the Soviet Union (married a Russian girl named Marina) then travelled back to US via Cuba & Mexico. So some connection with Castro could be threaded together I suppose.
What I find particularly galling is that Jack, who was not that good of a President and brother Teddy had infidelity issues big time. This last weekend we were treated to non-stop Kennedy deification by CBS and other MSM types but there is never any mention of all the women affected by these philanderers. They simply turn a blind eye to Democrats that behave badly. You will occasionally hear of Jack “visiting” different women while in office. Ted, the “liberal lion” as they like to call him left Mary Jo Kopechne to drown in his car at Chappaquiddick while he ran off to save his hide.
“Camelot” was nothing more than a pile of MSM hype.
