NIACC volleyball team falls to Wartburg JV, 3-1

niacc_trojans_logoMASON CITY – The NIACC volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to the Wartburg College junior varsity on Friday night in the NIACC gym.

Wartburg won 25-19, 25-23, 18-25, 25-15.

NIACC coach Chris Brandt said she was proud of her team’s effort in winning game 3 against the Knights.

“They just played excited,” Brandt said. “Everyone was playing together. They were talking.

“They were moving the ball well. They just played together and that’s a big thing in volleyball.”

NIACC (4-2 overall) was led by freshman Jessica Balek (Manly, Ia.) with 12 kills. Sophomores Lexy Nodtvedt (Manly, Ia.) and Melissa Bisbee (Stacyville, Ia.) both had six kills.

Also for NIACC, freshman setter Heather Danburg (Mason City, Ia.) had 20 assists and 13 digs. Freshman Hallie Erdahl (Lake Mills, Ia.) had 16 digs and freshman setter Carly Ouverson (Fertile, Ia.) had 12 assists and three ace serves.

Freshman Caitlyn Hanig (Sheffield, Ia.) and freshman Sydney Tschetter (Huron, S.D.) both had four blocks.

Brandt said her team can learn from Friday’s loss.

“I know I have a team of fighters,” she said. “We are a young team and we need to put some of the other things aside and just play.”

NIACC returns to action Wednesday in an ICCAC match at Southwestern.

“I’m excited for the battle,” Brandt said. “We need to come together as a team.

“Southwestern is looking very good this year. I know we have the type of team that is going to rise to the occasion.”
