NIACC men’s cross country team places second

niacc_trojans_logoCEDAR RAPIDS – The NIACC men’s cross country team placed second at the Mount Mercy Mustang Gallop Friday with 66 points.

Iowa Central won the team title with 27 points. Grand View and Mount Mercy tied for third with 107 points.

NIACC was led by freshman Jaime Zerate (Cedar Falls, Ia.) with a second-place finish in 16 minutes and 30 seconds in the 5-kilometer race. Sophomore Mason Powers (Gilbert, Ia.) was fourth in 16:53.

Iowa Central’s Dylan Eigenberger won the men’s race in 16:27.

Mount Mercy won the women’s team title with 42 points. NIACC was fourth with 99 points.

Grand View placed third with 51 points and Iowa Central was fourth with 54 points.

Freshman Hannah Palmeter (Bessemer, Mich.) placed third in a time of 16:36 in the 4-kilometer race. Sophomore Lindsay Brunson (Muscatine, Ia.) was 17th in 17:44.

Iowa Central’s Lauren Roberts won the women’s race in 16:22.

NIACC returns to action Sept. 14 at the Grinnell College Les Duke Invitational.
