Afghan commandos kill four insurgents, detain three in Kabul clearing operation

KABUL PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Afghan National Army special forces and commandos from the 2nd Special Operations Kandak killed four insurgents and detained three Aug. 27 in Kabul province’s Sarobi district.

The operation targeted the insurgent network in Uzbeen valley, specifically the Qali Kalan, Siri Kala and Walud Ozbin villages in order to preserve security around the Afghan National Army Outpost Rocco.

No civilian or Afghan military casualties were reported.

The operation was a Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan’s initiative to push remaining insurgents from the area, said Lt. Col Ahmadullah Popal, 2nd SOK commander. It also demonstrated that ANASF have irreversibly taken the lead for Afghanistan’s security, underscoring the Afghan government’s recent Tranche 5, Milestone 2013 announcement.

“Our mission is to push out insurgents from their hiding places and to eliminate those who are trying to destroy this country,” added Popal. “The Afghan people should know and understand who is destroying our country and who is rebuilding it.”

ANASF commandos are an elite group who conduct high-risk operations in areas known to be enemy strongholds. These counterinsurgency missions assist national and local police in their efforts to increase security, governance and development.

The detainees were transferred to the Sarobi district’s National Directorate of Security.
