State champion Newman baseball team honored by City Hall (VIDEO)

MASON CITY – The state champion Newman Knights baseball team was honored by Mayor Eric Bookmeyer and the City Council on Tuesday, August 20th, 2013.

Top-ranked Newman won the Class 1-A state baseball title 6-2 against Van Buren of Keosauqua earlier this month in Des Moines.  The team was runner up in 2013.  Star pitcher Kaden Wadle pitched the championship game and finished the season 8-0.  The team finished 29-6 overall.

The Knights now have four state titles and eleven state tournament appearances.

Coach Tony Adams and his team arrived at the Mason City Council meeting to accept a Certificate of Recognition for their achievement.

The Knights shook hands with the mayor and the council and accepted their award.

Even the high school kids don’t care about the council recognition because of the council non importance. There were only 7 of them there LOL. The state title is what matters to them, congrats Newman again! State Champs!

I know the rest of the team would have lived to been there but 5 of the 7 seniors had already left for college, and most of the other underclassmen had football practice.

Congratulations Newman Baseball.

This is great and this team deserves this recognition. It is too bad the city could not have recognized some of the other state championship teams over the past two years.

I totally agree with your statement! But it is election season and well Eric needs the votes! He needs to look like he cares about the community and is approachable. After election and he wins we won’t see this kind of thing again for about another 4 years. It will again be the richer class that are retired and give donations to the city and back to playing with his politic buddies and Mayors, you remember the lunches he throw for Mayors and County Supervisors and we the public are not invited!

Which state champions have they not recognized?

I know for certain that the Mohawk trapshooters were state champs in 2012.

Every school is known for something, when you think Newman, you think baseball, when you think Osage, you think wrestling, mention Forest City, you think basketball.
Tradition goes a very long way in any sport

Congratulations gentlemen. I just can’t figure out why parochial schools have such good athletes. Dah you idiots. Because their lives are focused. The competition is….well….lets just say absent. Society take notice and follow suit.

@anonymous….well said I think…parochial schools have good and not so good athletes just like every other school. But you hit it on the nail head when you said their lives are focused. Newman teaches faith first, then country, family, academics, then last sports. The public schools should take note, sports should not be the main focus and identity of a school. Sports teaches great lessons but it should not be the main persona of who a student is.

As far as saying competition is “absent”, Newman plays schools their own enrollment size, they do not play against just other catholic schools…and those other schools they compete against by and large have higher enrollment numbers.

Last but not least…look at the kids on this team in ten years…what will you see? You will see doctors, dentists, accountants, and leaders of their community its the whole package that counts with these kids.

By the way congratulations to Coach Adams…I feel the best coach in any sport in the entire state of Iowa.

Look at the schedule Newman plays every year. It’s packed with 4A-2A teams that the Knights compete with. No competition? Please

I think we agree on the competition angle but I cant understand your post from your first post. Are you saying Newman doest play anybody or are your saying they play tougher and bigger teams?
