Op-ed:
The terminology used by the warring factions in Egypt caused me to pause and contemplate my own surroundings. Unfortunately I see strong similarities between Cairo, Egypt and Mason City, Iowa.
What caused the uproar in Egypt? The administration. Why? Because the sitting president bestowed upon himself powers that included immunity from anything and everything on earth. In other words he superseded his authority beyond the outlines of his true duties. Any of this sound familiar?
Mason City has a City Administrator form of government with a weak mayoral position. Somehow all of that became convoluted after Bookmeyer took office. Those two positions got turned around. It wouldn’t have made much of a difference if the mayor had been competent but we all know that was far from the truth. To make matters worse, the Administrator allowed it. There are guidelines that specifically define the duties set forth that differentiate exactly what is what.
Now we have an opportunity to correct that with a new mayor, and with a new mayor we could return to a strong mayoral form of government where the mayor is paid close to $60,000.00 and eliminate the administrator position paid about $145,000.00 that would save the city $85,000.00. You want to talk about “lean”, that a good start.

You are so right Peter Obama or Bookmeyer haven’t made a sane decision sense elected to office by the time Obama is done with this term our American country will be run by Muslums and if we don’t get Bookmeyer out our city will be broke.
You do realize, Bookmeyer is a republican, and Obama is a democrat?

How about asking people all over town who are in favor – not just the NIMBY’s?
I think Peter is actually thinking too small. It’s more like the movie Armageddon with Bruce Willis. The Mayor is the giant meteor that is hurtling toward the earth/ Mason City. Matt is Ben Affleck and Peter is the crazy Steve Buscemi.In order for Matt to win he needs to duct tape Peter to a chair so he can’t post anymore of these wacky analogies.

@Pauly Ho.-I see the same similarities as you do. But Peter is right, the same type of dictatorship is right here in River City too.
