logo-iowa-state-patrolADAIR COUNTY – A trucker ran a motorcyclist off the road Thursday morning and didn’t stop.

According to a report from the Iowa State Patrol, a 60 year-old man from Ohio was eastbound on Interstate 80 near the 82 mile marker in Adair county just south west of Des Moines when he began to pass a semi-truck at about 11 AM. The semi moved from the left lane into the right lane when the motorcycle was attempting to pass the semi. The report states that the motorcyclist avoided collision with the semi and went into the median, losing control of the motorcycle, and overturned.

The motorcyclist was inured and taken to the Guthrie County Hospital by Adair County Rescue.

The “non-contact orange semi” failed to stop and continued east bound on Interstate 80 and was apparently never apprehended.

Sounds like the motorcyclist was trying to pass the trucker on the right. Not a good idea to try to pass in their blind spot. A lot of trucks move to the left when passing a on ramp and then move back to the right lane. He probably never saw the bike and certainly wouldn’t have felt it if he hit him. Sound like the biker did something dumb.

maybe he meant his other right…?

How did the motorcycle end up I. The media. If he was in the right lane?

Sorry about errors but the vinyl siding ad just to the right of this comment is in my comment box and I have to type over it!

Yep, always the motorcyclist to blame!

Let’s face it, motorcycle riders are the rudest on the road. Many refuse to ride safely, won’t wear a helmet, and have mufflers so loud they wake up the babe in the next car.
I can’t count the number of times a bunch of these loud cycle groups have blocked both lanes so no one else can pass and go along their way.

Cyclists have made their own bed.

What happened to this fellow is not all that uncommon for cyclists. The cyclists have the responsibility to drive defensively also.

Let’s face it, motorcycle riders have to deal with idiots that are more concerned about their cellphones, ipads, MP3 players, GPS, DVD players, and stereos than they are about what is in front of them or anywhere around them. Motorcycle riders have to watch out for almost every vehicle on the road because more people aren’t doing their job when they get behind the wheel of their cars. That job is FOCUS on the task at hand… driving safely.

Many refuse to ride safely,
A lot of times that is because we are trying to avoid one of you jack wagons that aren’t paying attention.

won’t wear a helmet,
Iowa doesn’t require a helmet be worn. It’s not a law. Whether you agree with this or not is a moot point. While I agree that it is certainly a good idea to wear safety gear, it has absolutely nothing to do with our ability to control the machine. Does your seat belt change the way you operate your car?

and have mufflers so loud they wake up the babe in the next car.
Good! Maybe if your baby wakes up and screams because of a loud muffler, you’ll take your eyes off your damn phone long enough to concentrate on the fact that there are other people on the road around you and you should pay attention to that fact.

Yes, I will admit that there are motorcyclists on the road that are just plain stupid, but you want to lump everyone of us together because of a few stupid ones. There are bad apples in EVERY group, that doesn’t mean you burn down the entire orchard.

Why was the stupid motorcyclist passing the semi in the right lane?

The semi didn’t stop because he didn’t see the dam fool trying to pass in the wrong lane. duh

Just another reckless motorcycle driver!

Good point.
