macnider-campgroundMASON CITY – A nice upgrade is in the works at this time for campers at the MacNider Campground in Mason City.

According to Recreation Director Brian Pauly, a cable internet provider is just days away from installing the needed cables and other equipment to set wireless internet access for those enjoying the campground.

“It’s been a request we have heard frequently,” Pauly said. “This will be another big draw to this brand-new campground.”

Pauly was at MacNider Campground Wednesday. He said he anticipates a nearly-full campground for the coming weekend, but “there’s still a few spots open.”

Pauly indicated that under the new leadership and a major renovation, the campground has done very well and “operates in the black. Any revenues above what it takes to run the campground goes towards the operation of the pool.”

My name is Larry Anderson. My wife and I manage the campgrounds and I would like to interject on a few subjects touched in previous posts. First of all, I think internet will be a great plus to the campers, as many who travel, work from home as do many locals. Secondly, if you have not camped at MacNider recently, you have not noticed that the so-called rif raf that you speak of, is no longer in the park. Karen and I have worked very hard to make it a safe and family friendly park that all who stay with us will enjoy.

It’s not just for computers !! Smartphones work better if hooked to wifi !!

If you have a third hand to hold the 20x magnifying glass in order to see the screen.

Nice addition. The park is much nicer. the new managers are doing a great job too.

When I go camping, the last thing that I want to do is get on the Internet.

Actually, the internet is in big demand at camp sites these days and is a huge draw to bring campers in. The modern campers are wired for internet as well as dish TV with three or more flat screen TV’s.

Wow Johnny boy must be a high roller camping is about being with family and enjoying the outdoors maybe they should put a better playground or some horse shoe pits in nope better just sit inside watch the flat screens and play games on the internet

I know your going to say walk to eastpark but don’t my family down there with frisbee throwing stoners and thugs and all the riff raff that’s there so maybe ill just go to a real campground

This is really a great addition to the campground. But, I’m wondering who is providing the wireless internet.

The City will be paying for it, I am assuming it is MediaCom since cable was mentioned.
