Child sexual predator from Mexico nabbed by border patrol officers, trying to re-enter U.S.

Anzalduas, Texas — Officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at the Anzalduas International Bridge arrested a 24-year-old male Mexican citizen who had an arrest warrant from Hillsboro, Oregon for rape and sexual abuse of a minor.

The arrest occurred on Sunday afternoon, July 21 when CBP officers at the Anzalduas-Reynosa International Bridge encountered Raul Osvaldo Gonzalez Rios, a lawful permanent resident (LPR) from Alamo, Texas as he attempted to enter the U.S. from Mexico. After presenting his LPR card to a CBP officer, an initial systems query revealed a possible match to an arrest warrant from Washington County, Oregon. Officers immediately secured Mr. Gonzalez Rios, escorted him to secondary and subsequent biometric checks through CBP and law-enforcement databases confirmed the active warrant for two counts of rape and two counts of sexual abuse of a minor, both first-degree felonies.

The warrant was issued in October 2012 for the alleged accusations, which occurred in 2010 and it involved an unrelated family member, a minor female who was 12-years-old at the time.

CBP arrested the adult male who was subsequently released to the custody of the Mission, Texas Police Department and will be transferred to the Hidalgo County Jail where he will wait extradition proceedings back to Oregon.

“This alleged child sexual predator was captured at one of our international bridges due to our ability to query everyone seeking entry to the U.S.,” said Efrain Solis Jr., port director, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas. “This is yet another fugitive of the law that CBP has detected and will now face the consequences of his alleged actions.”
