Op-ed: Bookmeyer painted himself into a corner (by Peter Children)

I think Bookmeyer has painted himself into a corner. It would be hard to trash Mrs. Easley for speaking her mind. To me I think she spoke truthfully, to others it will be transformed into babble on the outside, but inside the infamous list of twenty is squirming. Oh not all on that list, but more than one or two are now wishing they’d have not been asked.

Mrs Easley has only one thing on her mind, and that is the betterment of this community we all share with this lovely lady. There should be more of her ilk and less of Bookmeyr’s. She is the very fabric of cities and towns across this country, she personifies unselfishness and charity to others and we are all richer for her presence.

The band shell in East Park should be named after her, for it was her that brought it back to life. I remember it quite fondly as a young man I too enjoyed the concerts preformed there on warm summer nights. Then the short walk to Pattee’s for a fifteen cent malt and the walk home. Thank you Janice for preserving many memories as well as the band stand.

My 2 cents:

WHY VOTERS DON’T GO TO THE POLLS

Politicians use their media friends and Madison Avenue advertizing techniques to keep the voters totally confused. Feed us all a line of BS. Most non voters have thrown their hands in the air and gave up feeling hopeless it will ever change for the better.

Local Media=Globe Gazette & Kimt TV

Keeping the population confused and off balance is the only way can the “no name party” can control Mason City politics.

North Iowa Today reaches many but it does not appear to be reaching the voters that count.

That is what Bookie and his buds are counting on. Until someone with some leadership skills steps forward and puts together a platform of hope and can deliver on that platform, Mason City will continue to limp along swallowed up with all the negatives that surround us.

PS: Pete, Obama’s successful re-election was due to a masterful campaign of “giving away stuff.” That and the Republicans didn’t use the Madison Avenue advertizing techniques to their advantage like the Democrats did.

Janice has been around for a long time and certainly knows the ropes. She just had enough of the B.S. and let go. Peter is correct. People need to get out and vote these people out of office. However, for that to happen someone creditable needs to run against them. So far there is no one running for mayor that can win. Shickle could possibly do it but he draws from the same base as our current mayor. We just need someone to step up and then the rest of us need to VOTE.

This election is going to be fought between two groups, the peple that have jobs and those that don’t. The business leaders in this community will vote with bookmeyer and they actually will vote. The people without jobs, like janice, a couple will vote for some terrible candidate but most will not vote because they will be too busy that day posting on NIT how much they hate bookmeyer and the council or in jail. I too remember the bandshell and the performances held there but I get upset to see it sit there and not be used. It looks nice but it upsets me to see a portable stage set up next to it while they could use the “savior’s” bandshell.

Wonder why the medical and professional community don’t care enough to speak out about the way our community is run? Mason City has a negative image in the eyes of outsiders. You would think that the Chamber of Commerce would speak out about the poor leadership and the wrong direction the community is headed. This has to hurt Chamber members too.

The medical community (his wife is a doctor at Mercy) and the Chamber people are Bookmeyer’s people…that is his main base. And these are the people who vote. This whole thing is not rocket science…..you vote, you win, you don’t you lose.

Most of Bookmeyer’s political donations are from doctors, and those are not $5.00 bills, they are $200.00 checks. Why do you think the council sold out those homeowners in Forest Park? Look closely at his list of 20, some are Mercy executives.

Look at the last election for president; measures were put in place in every republican run state to make it harder for blacks to vote. What happened, blacks stood in line for upwards of 8 hours in some states to cast their vote. Now…..who won?

VOTE = JANICE!

Mrs. Easley is an asset to Mason City and there should be more like her. She says what she thinks and she is usually right on the money. Bookkmeyer smirks and makes fun of the average senior citizen so I am glad she called him out on it. As far as his running for Mayor, what has he done for the good of Mason City? He runs this city like Hitler and is a big spoiled baby that has to get his way all the time. The people that endorse him are the ones that think they are important and expect favors from the mayor. The hard working average citizen makes up this town and the snobs seem to forget that. The mayor is a joke and so it the council. This town needs a big change!!!!!!!!!

Peter those memories wouldn’t have been going to the park and chasing married women. Lord knows that you had a great moral compass.

I think you’re obsessed with my sexual history. Take a deep breath and consider this. Out of the vast multitude of women who stood patiently in line for months waiting their turn, some simply lied on the form they were required to fill out about their marital status. Did you ever consider that?

Number One, when writing an article about someone, at least spell their name right!!! Easley. And one more thing Peter, any women in your life ought to be mighty proud of your past for you keep bragging about it online. She must be blind or not know of your love affair with this site. You are a piece of work.

Anna its quite easy to see you are upset; there could be a lot of reasons for that. Perhaps you were one of those waiting in line and when your turn came up my selection committee rejected you and you’ve held a grudge all these years. Is that what this is really about? I have stayed in touch with quite a few who were in that line and they have expressed a desire to hold a renunion at the All Seasons building at the All Events Center but I am not so sure about that. Some of these women have passed away, some are now in assisted care, I feel those who were were very young at the time are are still married now; their husbands might resent there participation in such a renunion.

Then there is the matter of many who are now scattered across the entire country….the cost of just getting here would be enormous in itself. What if I asked you Anna to help park cars outside the Event Center….could you do that? Or just maybe you’re wound up too tight for that.

Wow, you are arrogant. The most I’ve ever wanted to do with you in my lifetime is say HELLO!! Your honey, if you have one should be so proud. Also I had a long line of speil ahead of this comment, but I deleted it. Not worth the effort.

” some simply lied on the form they were required to fill out about their marital status. Did you ever consider that?” Peter you are either one sick delusional puppy or have a weird sense of humor. Oh I forgot , you don’t have a sense of humor, so it must be the former.

Just why does my sex life come up with things that have nothing to do with it? Why are people so interested in it I am no different than anyone else.

Yes Peter you are different, you BRAG about it. Most gentlemen don’t “kiss and tell” but you wear it like a medal and parade it all over NIT. That is the DIFFERENCE Peter.

I totally agree. Janice is a great lady with a big heart. Janice is the “salt of the earth”. She represents what we all aspire to be.

When Janice told Mayor Bookmeyer he was a “snake in the grass,” it came from spontaneous anger caused from a Mayor who openly displays his disdain for the very citizens he is representing.

The anger towards Mayor Bookmeeyer is justified precisely because of the 20 or so people he chooses to represent. The rest of us don’t mean a thing to him.

I was surprised who the people were that signed on to his campaign committee. That was a real head shaker. Knowing many of them I am very surprised. I thought they were of better character then what they showed by endorsing a tyrant.
