Harkin Announces More Than $4,000,000 in Federal Funding to Improve Iowa Airports

Washington, D.C. – Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) today announced that the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has awarded a total of $4,023,564 for a variety of airport rehabilitation, expansion and construction projects across the state. Harkin is a senior member of the Appropriations subcommittee that funds these initiatives.

“Our airports are critical to generating jobs and economic development throughout the state,” said Harkin. “This funding will keep our airports in compliance with important FAA standards so that they can continue to bring economic growth to Iowa. I congratulate each airport on this competitive funding and I look forward to the improvements it will generate.”

Details of the funding are below:

Algona Municipal Airport: $562,500 for taxiway rehabilitation
Mason City Municipal Airport: $540,000 to acquire snow removal equipment
Storm Lake Municipal Airport: $49,500 for runway rehabilitation
Waterloo Regional Airport: $818.113 for runway rehabilitation

Others receiving funds:

Clinton Municipal Airport: $613,796 to construct terminal building
Council Bluffs Municipal Airport: $300,000 to improve airport drainage
Fort Madison Municipal Airport: $258,300 to improve access road
Mount Pleasant Municipal Airport: $203,515 to construct snow removal equipment building
Newton Municipal Airport: $378,000 for apron expansion
Southeast Iowa Regional Airport in Burlington: $299,840 to acquire land for approaches
