MASON CITY – There may be some better attractions at this year’s North Iowa Fair.

According to Fair Manager David Green, “Although it was unexpected, the North Iowa Fair has signed a contract with Royal West Amusements to provide carnival rides, games and food during the North Iowa Fair. This agreement came as a result of a lot of people that are supporting the Fair, working hard to make improvements, and building for the future of the Fair.”

Advance all-day ride passes are available at the Fair office starting June 21st for a discounted price of $20. This pass will allow the person all day carnival rides for any one day of the Fair and 3 tokens for food or games.

Volunteers have been at the fairgrounds last week and this week cleaning and working to make the event the best it can be.

The North Iowa Fair is set for July 10-14, 2013.

Also last week, a new digital sign was installed at the North Iowa Events Center south entrance. The fair hopes to have the sign running soon after reporting a problem after the initial installation last week. “we have found our problem as we thought the storm was not nice it damaged an antenna and we hope to have it up and running before end of week,” the fair reported on its Facebook Page.

Google this Company and it’s history. It’s not a positive one at all.

Thanks to Anonymous for doing research on the carnival, but he didn’t follow through on his research to find out the answers to his concerns. The Carnival was owned by a married couple who both owned separate carnivals. Due to a divorce both companies were placed on hold while the court procedures were taking place. Different carnival companies were then contracted to fill the contracts at the fairs in question. Although this company was in name on the contracts the other company failed to complete the requirements. This has been resolved and the carnival is now in full control. As for leaving the area they operated in, many companies move. Especially after a divorce. Many of you have been there. As to the comments by 50 miles south. If you were talking about any other group of people (blacks, Mexican, gay, disabled etc.) there would be outrage. Just goes to show how biased and shallow this unintelligent statement is. Especially against a person or group of people who you have never met.

Thanks for the additional information and I wish the show luck. A successful carnival will do nothing but help the show owner and the North Iowa Event’s Center. Divorces happen and often bring with them a hell of a mess. FYI, I’m not a “he” and I’m “with it” which is why I am picky about the the shows.

I made two comments. which one of the two are you talking about?
#1 “Although it was unexpected, the North Iowa Fair has signed a contract.
that sounds weird”.
meaning just that. It sounds weird to unexpectedly sign a contract

#2 “a good show with shot glasses and small pipes. just kidding”
this was a joke referring to another post where problems occurred at a carnival. Ask Matt, as he wrote an article about it.
Now you are making this statement.
“If you were talking about any other group of people (blacks, Mexican, gay, disabled etc.) there would be outrage. Just goes to show how biased and shallow this unintelligent statement is.”
WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT ANYWAY?? Im truly dumbfounded here. Can anyone else please answer as to what I did or said that was so wrong as to offend blacks, Mexicans, gays, disabled, ect? Please answer. and not just the GREEN family.

I’ll come to your defense Pal…NOTHING. I have no idea wha this person is talking about. In my opinion, your comment was not out of line or offense.

Don’t sweat it.

thank you my voice. I have a good idea who it is anyway. it is a member of the David Green family or someone else who is associated with the north iowa fairgrounds. I was critical of the fairgrounds method of operation in a past blog, and they didnt like it. Now everyone can see (if they read this blog) what that group is really about. in this instance, I did not intend to insult anyone. SOOO I will not sweat anything. but thanks anyway

Because it was a joke it seems to be ok with you. Distinguishing a group of people because of what they do is as biased as grouping people because of their beliefs, ethnic background, or any other preconceived notion. This carnival had a cancelation due to another fair getting into financial difficulties and contacted your Fairboard. This can only help your community as you used to have one of the premier fairs in the state. I am not affiliated with the fair or the green family but have done my resurch before making comments. This company drug tests and test for alcohol spontaneously. Can you say that about your company. Just so you know, those who comment on other people’s post are as guilty of bias or misleading comments as the original post. Do you not want a successful fair?

first off… I shake my head at your double talking bullshit that doesnt have a thing to do with anything I said.
I will make my second comment after the fair.

The comment “a good show with shot glasses and small pipes. just kidding” sounds like you are implying that people who work on carnivals are drunks and/drug addicts

Hopefully. a step in the right direction. Agreed, they will need to get quality entertainmet. This must be booked way in advance. Look at what the Surf management has done. There is hope…

Use caution. Good carnivals are booked up by the beginning of the year. I Googled this outfit. This carnival is from Montana and their web page has not been updated since the beginning of the 2012 season. There is nothing about them operating any further east than Colorado and Texas. There are also several stories about them failing to meet contracts last year including showing up late and not providing all the rides they were supposed to. It looks like there was an ownership change last year that consolidated two shows. I hope that all these issues have been ironed out and that they present a good clean show in Mason City this year.

a good show with shot glasses and small pipes. just kidding

You’re probably not too far off bud. I’d bet on it.

AT LEAST some pocket knives, bottle openers, and some slandily dressed women printed on little mirrors for the kiddies. I promise you that.

Developing a quality midway show is another promising step in the right direction. I wish them well.

HOW ABOUT GETTING A DECENT COUNTRY BAND OUT ON THE TRACK LIKE HAMPTON AND ALBERT LEA FAIRS

Have a brother and sister in law who live one block from the Freeborn county fair…I and my wife go there every year for at least 3 shows. This year they have Kelli Pickler, Sawyer Brown, and I will also be going to Kenny Rogers.

You are right USMCSSG if you bring in top notch entertainment people will come. Freeborn county fair packs in thousands for these shows, and of course they use the rest of the fairgrounds as well.

Until our fair gets on board Albert Lea is 45 minutes north.

“Although it was unexpected, the North Iowa Fair has signed a contract”. that sounds weird.
