MASON CITY – The Charles H. MacNider Art Museum is pleased to present the photography exhibition, Mark Levinson: A Photographic Retrospective. Levinson was born in Brooklyn, New York, and received his B.S. degree from Albion College and his M.D. from the University of Maryland. He practiced medicine in Denver, Colorado for thirty-four years and retired in 2007. He developed a passion for photography as a teenager. Over the years his photographic technique matured and evolved, allowing him to achieve a more refined personal vision. Please join the Museum in appreciating Levinson’s quietly beautiful images.
“The photographs in this exhibition have been selected from thousands of images taken between 1980 and 2012. The images portray the fragile existence of the landscape and those who inhabit it. My ultimate goal is to idealize and exemplify the subjects and reveal a sense of timelessness, endurance or otherworldliness. I create images which I hope will evoke in the viewer a contemplative pause.”

To celebrate the opening of this exhibition, the Museum will host an opening reception, MacNider: Off the Clock, on Friday, April 12 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. This entertaining event will feature complementary wine, appetizers and live music by Betty and the Gents. Guests will have the opportunity to visit with Mark Levinson and learn more about his process and artistic vision. There will also be time to socialize with friends and coworkers, explore the Museum’s Permanent Collection galleries and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. This event is free and open to the public.
