MASON CITY – The Mason City Public Library is proud to announce the addition of Zinio Online Magazine Newsstand to our online patron resources. Library Journal named Zinio for Libraries from RB Digital the Best New Database for 2012, calling it a “game-changer.”

Zinio offers patrons multi-user access to numerous popular digital magazines, which can be easily viewed on any Internet-enabled device inside or outside of the library. Mason City Public Library is offering approximately one hundred titles including Consumer Reports, Martha Stewart Living, Motor Trend, Rolling Stone and Seventeen.

Zinio’s unique technology digitally recreates a magazine page for page, including full color pictures, intuitive navigation, key word article search and interactive elements, such as audio and video. This enables patrons to in effect “subscribe” to their favorite magazines for free and view on their PC, tablet or smart phone. No waiting for another patron to return the issue you want to read! Once you have placed a favorite magazine on your account, you will be notified when future issues are available.

To begin, log on to the Mason City Public Library website at www.mcpl.org. Click on the Zinio link near the bottom of the page and create an account on your PC for both Zinio and MCPL. After creating your account, follow the instructions at the bottom of the Zinio log in page to download the app for your specific mobile device.

If you do not have a library card yet, stop in to the Main Desk of the library to apply for a free library card. For more information on obtaining a library card, call 641.421.3668 or email librarian@mcpl.org.

“This enables patrons to in effect “subscribe” to their favorite magazines for free and view on their PC”

Should we really be collecting taxes giving free things away to people? Seems odd to day the least.
