Violent felon sent back to prison on latest child abuse charges

MASON CITY – A violent felon charged with child abuse 3 times in 2012 was sentenced to return to prison for up to 7 years.

On New Year’s Day 2012 Shadrick Dennery Vogt, age 29, was arrested by Clear Lake Police and charged with an aggravated misdemeanor 726.6(7) Child Endangerment – No Injury. Judge Rustin Davenport accepted a plea deal where Vogt pled guilty to a lesser Assault Causing Bodily Injury charge. He was given a $315 fine and other costs totaling $645.48, which he still owes in full.

In July, less than five months after getting the plea bargain deal Clear Lake Police were again investigation multiple incidents of child abuse by Vogt. After collecting enough evidence police arrested Vogt in September for one class D felony count of 726.6(6)-A Child Endangerment – Bodily Injury from a July 1st child abuse incident. Vogt was also charged with an aggravated misdemeanor 726.6(7) Child Endangerment – No Injury incident which occurred on July 27th, 2012.

Vogt entered into a plea bargain agreement and pled guilty to the charges on December 4th with presiding Judge Colleen Weiland allowing him to remain on the streets pending sentencing after admitting guilt to the child abuse resulting in injury.

At Vogt’s sentencing hearing Monday, January 28th, presiding Assistant Chief Judge James M. Drew sentenced Vogt to serve up to 5 years in prison for the felony child abuse resulting in bodily injury. Judge Drew sentenced Vogt to serve another prison sentence up to 2 years consecutively following the 5 year sentence for the child abuse resulting in no injury.

Judge Drew also imposed $2117.25 in fines, surcharges, and court costs against Vogt.

Vogt is currently in the Cerro Gordo County Jail awaiting transport to prison.
