Forest City, Iowa – North Iowans can explore fascinating new developments in science thanks to recent purchases by Waldorf College’s Luise V. Hanson Library. The college recently added 30 books and journals to its expanding science collection to provide more current and relevant learning resources to students and community members.

“Libraries frequently have difficulty maintaining science collections because the books in that field go out of date so quickly and are often the most expensive,” said Waldorf Library Director Elizabeth Kiscaden. “We’re purchasing these new titles in part to build a more comprehensive collection.”

Kiscaden met with Waldorf’s biology faculty to determine what could be purchased to improve learning opportunities for Waldorf students.

“We have an emphasis on providing a high level of academic information to support student learning,” Kiscaden said. “We’re able to provide our students with access to current, relevant information in their field.”

These new materials are not just limited to Waldorf College students. The Luise V. Hanson Library serves the North Iowa community by providing the same benefits to community members as students.

“Our service doesn’t end at Waldorf,” said Kiscaden. “Anyone can check out our library materials with a free library card, and we welcome anyone to come in and use our internet access as well.”

“Our library is a great place for groups to meet,” added User Services Librarian Lisa Eggebraaten. “We have book clubs that come in and have a lot of people visit to read the newspapers.”

Community members may sign up for their free library card by visiting the library’s front desk with a valid ID. People under the age of 18 must have a guardian present to obtain their library card.
