NORTHWOOD – Council meeting minutes now confirm that Northwood Mayor Randy Severson and City Council member Teresa George both resigned at this week’s council meeting.
Any reason for their resignations were not immediately available. Northwood City Attorney John Greve said via phone Wednesday that he “had heard” that there could be resignations at the meeting but could not confirm because he was not asked to attend the meeting.
A request for the meeting minutes from City Clerk Amber Julseth was honored late Thursday afternoon. Julseth said the meeting minutes would be made available and emailed Wednesday afternoon, but the information did not arrive. A phone call to Northwood City hall Thursday morning revealed Julseth would be out of the building all day and would not return, and the Deputy City Clerk said she has no access to the meeting minutes, which may reveal more about the resignations.
Severson and George recently engaged in a conversation on George’s Facebook page which at least one Northwood resident found questionable. George has since made her Facebook page private and no posts can be seen unless she allows it.
Severson is still facing harassment charges at this time. On October 25th, the case was continued in court until an undetermined date. Severson did issue a press release in September on the charges through his attorney, Joel Yunek.

This is all bullshit and I think people need to mind their own business to be honest. Northwood is a small town, so unfortunately this is unavoidable. Teresa is a great person and Northwood lost a great person the day she resigned. This will affect our town and people will see in time. Randy should have been canned a long time ago, this goes left unsaid. However, for one facebook post, everyone got their panties in a bundle and obviously cannot take a joke or have a sense of humor what so ever. What is this world coming to? Can’t joke or laugh or smile or express your freedom of speech without being ridiculed. This got completely exaggerated and blown out of proportion! People need to relax a little bit and learn to have a little fun in life. Life is too short to be so damn serious all the time. We will miss you Teresa!!! And, to whoever took that post from her facebook and decided to make it a public event for the world to see, shame on you. I’m sure many people would love to find out who you are and dig up some skelatons in your closet, because no one is perfect. Mind your business and get a life.
I agree with you. Some people have a quirky sense of humor and I thought the meme was funny. Maybe it wasn’t appropriate for the public, but she wasn’t posting it to the public or as a representative of the City of Northwood. It’s a shame that no one can let down her hair anywhere any more. I personally, as a lifelong resident of Northwood, can’t understand why any of this was directed at Ms. George. She has always given 100% to this town. Almost every Christmas event and 4th of July event here has been planned, hosted, and sponsored by her. Mostly through her wonderful work as the President of the Chamber of Commerce here. Her family has been a staple of this community ever since I was born. Ms. George has also resigned as the President of the local Chamber here. Anyone who knows this woman knows how much time and effort she has put into this town, just to be bitch slapped by the city council. Her implication in this is horrible. To post a joke on facebook is to ruin you life? Who among us could stand a ridicule from every post in the past? This is a sad day for Northwood and I truly hope people reconsider what they have done to destroy this town.

I would agree with all but the last part. Mayor severson has also done great things for the city of Northwood. What is scary is that anyone can file charges against anyone else. As a matter of fact maybe we should file bogus charges against the rest of the council and start with new. It is a sad day for Northwood. You have two life long residents of Northwood that believe in Northwood and strive to make it better for the future, but have angered 1 former employee that has done everything he can to ruin their lives. It is a sad day.
