Police link homicide victim to Florida salon shooting

By Arelis R. Hernandez, Orlando Sentinel –

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando Police said Tuesday that the vehicle used in last week’s deadly shooting at a Casselberry, Fla., beauty salon belonged to a man found dead inside a Gatlin Avenue condominium late Friday.

Roberto Carlos Colon, 28, was found dead in his unit at the Venetian Place condominiums after police received a call to check on his well-being, said Sgt. Vincent Ogburn, a police spokesman.

Colon’s car was the vehicle Bradford Baumet used Thursday when he drove to Las Dominicanas M&M Salon and opened fire on the women inside, killing three and wounding his estranged girlfriend.

Baumet killed himself at a Winter Park home shortly after.

The shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute between Baumet and his ex-girlfriend and salon co-owner Marcia Santiago, which led to several violent encounters and a domestic injunction that was filed the week before the shooting.

Detectives do not know how Colon was connected to Baumet, but they are continuing to investigate.

Ogburn would not say how Colon was killed.

Neighbors and police told the Orlando Sentinel that Colon moved into the unit recently and may have been looking for work.

Records show Colon previously lived in South Florida.
