First of Iowa’s Youth Waterfowl Seasons Begins Oct. 6 in the North Zone

10/05/2012 – Resident hunters age 15 or younger may hunt during the youth waterfowl season without purchasing a hunting license, federal duck stamp or paying the Iowa migratory game bird fee.

The youth waterfowl seasons are Oct. 6-7 in the north zone, Oct. 13-14 in the south zone and Oct. 20-21 in the Missouri River zone.

Daily bag and possession limits for ducks, geese, mergansers and coots for the youth season are the same as for the regular season. All other regulations in effect for the regular water fowl seasons apply during the youth hunt.

The youth hunter must be accompanied by an adult 18 years old or older. The adult must have a hunting license and have paid the Iowa wildlife habitat and migratory game bird fees.  Only the youth may hunt ducks, geese and coots. The accompanying adult may hunt any game that is in season, including other migratory game birds, provided they possess a federal duck stamp.
