Mason City parolee heading back to prison after another car theft

MASON CITY – A Mason City man who was paroled from prison in December of 2011 after serving a prison sentence for drunken driving while eluding police in a stolen motor vehicle while escaped from a correctional facility is heading back to prison.

David Ray Freie, age 49, of Mason City was arrested on July 10th when local law enforcement located a stolen motor vehicle in the 900 block of North Eisenhower Avenue. As the driver of the stolen vehicle, Freie was arrested on one class D felony count of 2nd degree theft, and violating his parole.

Freie has been held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail since July on the parole violation.

As part of a plea bargain deal the original felony charge of 2nd degree theft was reduced to an amended misdemeanor charge of 3rd degree theft.

At a scheduled sentencing hearing on October 1st presiding District Court Judge Rustin T. Davenport sentenced Freie to serve up to 2 years in prison on the reduced charge. Judge Davenport suspended a $625 fine, but imposed $285 in court costs and surcharges against Freie.

Judge Davenport ordered the sentence to be served concurrently (allowing Freie credit) for any time imposed for his parole violation.

David Freie is currently listed on the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Inmate Population Report as awaiting transport to prison.

Yeah, maybe this guy has no skills to work since he’s been in prison, so he wants to go back to get taken care of.

Anyone know if this guy ever worked or is he a career criminal??

Some people never learn. Evidentially doesn’t like freedom. Back ya go.
